Meet Sara Spain, a teacher who will share with the RCRA about her and her husband's experiences teaching Native Americans at the Lakota Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota from 1991-1995. Obtain a bibliography of suggested books written of these Plains Indians, to share with your students during the upcoming Thanksgiving season. Also, meet "Standing Eagle", or Frank Taylor. He will give an Indian flute performance and will have authentic flutes and CDs for sale too. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.
You won't want to miss this event! A local illustrator/artist, Jennifer White, will present a customized workshop for the RCRA on Graphic/Manga books and their extraordinary appeal for all ages. The workshop will cover not only the storyboard process but will also include information on studies which show that these books are effective in teaching literacy skills. As always, refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.
Robin Wilcut-Bledsoe has recently published the children's book titled "The Imagination of Hollie Mason". She has her family roots in Cleveland, Tennessee, though is now living in Loudon, Tennessee. She is the mother of four children and wanted to write a story for preteens with a valuable life lesson. She looks forward to sharing the joy of reading and writing with teachers of like mind, who know and appreciate the thrill of a good story!
"From
every book invisible threads reach out to other books; and as the
mind comes to use and control those threads the whole panorama of
the world's life, past and present, becomes constantly more varied
and interesting, while at the same time the mind's own powers of
reflection and judgment are exercised and strengthened."
