Dr. Joel Barnes is currently serving as the principal of Blythe Bower Elementary School in Cleveland, Tennessee. With a wealth of knowledge and a passion for education, Dr. Barnes brings valuable expertise to his role.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Barnes worked as the Supervisor of Federal Projects and Professional Development for Cleveland City Schools, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing federal projects and facilitating professional development opportunities for educators within the district.

Before his role as a supervisor, Dr. Barnes served as the principal of Blythe Bower Elementary School for five years. During his tenure, he demonstrated practical leadership skills, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for students and staff. His dedication to academic excellence and commitment to student success was evident in the school's achievements and the positive impact on student outcomes. Dr. Barnes's previous experience includes serving as an assistant principal at Cleveland High School and Cleveland Middle School.

As the principal of Blythe Bower Elementary School, Dr. Joel Barnes continues to lead with vision and passion. He collaborates closely with teachers, staff, students, and parents to create a positive and inclusive school culture that supports academic growth and social-emotional well-being. Dr. Kristen Early has served as an assistant principal at Blythe-Bower Elementary School since 2023. Originally from Camden, Tennessee, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Lambuth University, a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Educational Leadership from Bethel University, an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Middle Grades Endorsement, and a Doctorate in Professional Practice from Lee University.

With experience dating back to 2012, Dr. Early joined Cleveland City Schools in 2016 and has held various leadership roles. She has been recognized for her dedication, serving as a teacher leader and mentor, presenting at conferences, and leading school initiatives. In 2021, she became an RTIF at Blythe-Bower Elementary, and later, in 2023, she was promoted to Operations Coordinator, then Assistant Principal.

Dr. Early's commitment to educational excellence is evident through her achievements, including winning the Grand Champion award at Lee University's Research Poster Symposium. As an assistant principal, she continues to inspire and create a positive learning environment at Blythe-Bower Elementary School.

Dr. Joe Parker

Dr. Joe Parker joined Blythe-Bower as an assistant principal for the 2024 school year. Growing up in a Navy family, he lived around the U.S. and in Japan. He holds degrees in Telecommunications, Elementary Education, Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Professional Practice. His dissertation explored the benefits of teacher self-care.

In his previous role at Black Fox Elementary School, Dr. Parker served on the Junior Achievement team, as a BETA club sponsor, and as Math Teacher Leader. He was selected to participate in the 2022-2023 Cohort for LEAD Leadership Fellowship.

Dr. Parker brings a wealth of experience and a strong educational background to his new position. He was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2020 and was recognized with the Above and Beyond Medallion in 2019.

As an assistant principal, his goal is to build relationships with students and partnerships with their family. Additionally, he aims to maintain a school culture that makes Blythe-Bower a wonderful place to teach and learn.
