After 36 years of dedicated service to Cleveland City Schools, Vice Principal Barbara Ector of Cleveland High School (CHS) has announced her retirement, effective after the 2023-2024 school year.

Mrs. Ector has been a beloved figure at the front entrance of Cleveland High School, where her "good morning" greetings have become a cherished tradition among students. Reflecting on this daily ritual, Mrs. Ector remarked, "You never know what kind of challenges these students are facing."

Principal Bob Pritchard shared his sentiments on Mrs. Ector's retirement, stating, "Barbara Ector has been an important part of our school community. Her dedication and commitment to our students' well-being have left an indelible mark on Cleveland High School."

Throughout her career spanning over three decades, Mrs. Ector has been deeply connected to Cleveland City Schools. Her journey began with a move from Memphis, Tennessee, to Cleveland 37 years ago, when her husband was transferred for a job from Louisiana. Together, they built their life in Cleveland, establishing roots in the community that they have cherished ever since.

Mrs. Ector's decision to retire coincides with a significant personal milestone: the graduation of her grandson from Cleveland High School. "We're going to graduate together," Mrs. Ector shared, highlighting the profound bond she shares with both her family and the school community.

Reflecting on her tenure, Mrs. Ector emphasized, "It's been a journey, but it's been well worth it." Her enduring commitment to Cleveland City Schools is a testament to the culture and the people within the school system who have made it feel like home.

In her retirement, Mrs. Ector plans to devote more time to her church and cherished family. She looks forward to strengthening her bonds within her community and enjoying precious moments with her loved ones.

Mrs. Ector leaves a lasting message for her colleagues and future educators: "You have to find a way to keep your passion. You cannot survive in education without passion; remember to keep the focus on the students and not the problems."
