At Cleveland City Schools, we believe in providing a well-rounded education that empowers our students to reach their full potential. Our elementary school curriculum is designed to foster a love of learning, cultivate critical thinking skills, and lay a foundation for academic success.

Children in elementary school will have instruction in:

Textbook & Materials

English Language Arts
Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum inspires curiosity and strives to teach students to learn to listen, speak, read, and write confidently and proficiently.  CKLA is a core curriculum for grades PreK–5 that is grounded in the Science of Reading and combines rich, diverse content knowledge in history, science, literature, and the arts with systematic research-based foundational skills instruction. The program reflects the latest early reading research showing the importance of solid foundational skills. Amplify’s CKLA curriculum aligns with Tennessee state standards.

Math
SAVVAS K-5 math curriculum is a comprehensive program designed to enhance students' math skills and knowledge from kindergarten through fifth grade. The curriculum aligns with Tennessee state standards and includes engaging activities, interactive lessons, and assessments to support students' mastery of essential mathematical concepts. The program is aligned with state and national standards, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education. Additionally, SAVVAS K-5 math curriculum incorporates various teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students, making it an inclusive and accessible program for all learners.

Science
Houghton Mifflin K-5 Science is a comprehensive science curriculum that covers a wide range of scientific topics, including life science, earth science, physical science, and engineering. The curriculum aligns with Tennessee state standards and features engaging activities, hands-on experiments, and interactive digital resources that help students develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts. With Houghton Mifflin K-5 Science, students explore the wonders of the natural world and develop the skills they need to succeed in science and beyond.

Social Studies
Cleveland City Schools integrated social studies curriculum covers a broad range of topics including history, geography, government, economics, and culture. Students learn about local and global communities, different cultures and traditions, and how societies have changed over time. Students develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. The curriculum is designed to promote an understanding and appreciation of the world around them and to prepare students to be active and informed citizens.

Assessment Blueprints for 2023-2024

Tennessee assessment blueprints are a valuable resource for educators as they prepare for the upcoming school year. These blueprints provide a summary of what will be assessed on each assessment, helping educators to plan their curriculum accordingly.

Pacing Guides for 2024-2025

Cleveland City Schools share a pacing guide for each grade level and subject. The pacing guide describes what students will learn in the classroom and the order in which skills and content should be taught, ensuring that students are able to build on prior knowledge and deepen understanding.
