These three seniors, known for their academic excellence, athletic dominance, and leadership, have earned a rare opportunity to further their education and play at the highest level of college athletics - all while preparing to serve their country.

From Blue Raiders to Cadets and Midshipmen

Samuel Sartin, a star tight end for Cleveland High Schoolโ€™s football team, has committed to play for Army West Point. A leader on the field and in the classroom, Sartin was named All-Region and played a key role in the Blue Raidersโ€™ success. His discipline, work ethic, and leadership made him a top recruit for the Army Black Knights.

Cy Fowler, a TSSAA state champion wrestler, is taking his talents to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he will compete at the Division I level. A nationally ranked wrestler, Fowler has been a cornerstone of Clevelandโ€™s powerhouse wrestling program, helping lead the Blue Raiders to multiple state titles. His ability to perform under pressure and push himself to the highest level will serve him well in the Air Force.

Tyson Russell, another state champion wrestler, has been recruited by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. One of the top-ranked heavyweight wrestlers in the nation, Russell has built a legacy of dominance in Tennessee wrestling. At Navy, he will continue to train at the highest level while developing leadership skills that will prepare him for a future as a Naval officer.

โ€œThese young men have worked tirelessly to reach this moment,โ€ said Cleveland High School Principal Bob Pritchard. โ€œThey are not only outstanding athletes but also top-tier students and leaders. The fact that they have been recruited to play sports at the service academies speaks to their incredible talent and discipline. We are beyond proud of them.โ€

Cleveland City Schoolsโ€™ Commitment to Military and Athletic Pathways

The success of Sartin, Fowler, and Russell reflects Cleveland City Schoolsโ€™ commitment to providing pathways for students to excel in athletics, academics, and military service. Cleveland High School offers a JROTC program, college ROTC scholarship guidance, and support for student-athletes who aspire to play at the collegiate level while serving their country.

โ€œThis is a proud moment for Cleveland High School and our entire district,โ€ said Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Schools for Cleveland City Schools. โ€œThese three students have earned an incredible opportunity, combining athletics with service to our nation. Their success demonstrates what happens when students receive the right guidance, put in the hard work, and believe in their dreams. We are honored to celebrate them and look forward to seeing all they accomplish.โ€

A Legacy of Excellence and Service

Earning a service academy appointment as a recruited athlete is an honor that only a select few across the country achieve each year. Sartin, Fowler, and Russell will not only represent Cleveland High School at the next level but also uphold a tradition of service, leadership, and athletic excellence.

As graduation approaches, the excitement is growing. Whether on the football field, the wrestling mat, or in leadership training, Sartin, Fowler, and Russell are ready to take on the challenge, and Cleveland will be cheering them on every step of the way.
