Teacher Feature: Latishua Scurlock, CHS

Mrs. Latishua Scurlock remembers the moment she accepted a job as a teacher at her alma mater, Cleveland High School.

โ€œI remember dancing around my kitchen the moment I got the phone call,โ€ Scurlock said. โ€œIt was a goal, I really wanted to be in Cleveland High School.โ€

Mrs. Scurlock graduated from Cleveland High School in 2009. She received a bachelorโ€™s degree in Mathematics from Lee University four years later.

Her education journey started in Hamilton County but her love for Cleveland brought her back to the halls on Raider Drive.

โ€œI wanted to be able to influence kids that donโ€™t always connect with teachers,โ€ Mrs. Scurlock said. โ€œIโ€™ve really felt like Iโ€™ve been able to do that here.โ€

It didnโ€™t take long for her to realize that building relationships with her students was the foundation of their success.

โ€œI want to inspire them and influence them,โ€ Scurlock said. โ€œIโ€™ve really shifted my classroom to be a place where they want to be and that they feel loved, seen, and validated.โ€

Mrs. Scurlock has been married to her husband, Joshua, for six years. Together, they have two kids, Henry, 4, and Owen, 2.

โ€œI am extremely blessed to be at Cleveland High School. I have grown so much in my career from being here. This place is full of incredible teachers that you can learn from.โ€

We are so lucky to have Mrs. Scurlock as a teacher in Cleveland City Schools!
